Do alto de um dos maiores contrafortes da Serra da Arrábida dominava o território que ía dos estuários do Sado ao Tejo. Foi bastião árabe e cristão, posto de vigia, base militar e ponto estratégico de comunicação acabando por receber a última sede da Ordem de Santiago em Portugal.

From the top of one of the biggest foothills of the Serra da Arrábida, it dominated the territory that went from the estuaries of the Sado to the Tagus. It was an arab and christian bastion, watch post, military base and strategic point of communication, ending hosting the last headquarters of the Order of Santiago in Portugal.
